FROM ALICE FISCHER:
This year I am thrilled that our WWAM project is taking us to Cota, Columbia!
Colombia has been a country at war for over 50 years. This turmoil leaves a legacy of abuse, displacement by violence, orphaned children and high risk individuals.
Rosalba Pérez Gómez, General Director, opened the Asociatión Jireh Provisión de Amor safe house as an answer for endangered girls, orphaned through the atrocities of war. As victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment, many found themselves without a place to go. Left without protection, girls were sexually abused and molested. They experience the unimaginable horror of human trafficking and exploitation of children in South America. The stories of the girls who have encountered the love found within the walls of the Provisión de Amor are heart-wrenching. As we come to know their backgrounds and testimonies, we are astounded to learn how they were literally grasped from the hands of those who exploited and abused them.
Provisión de Amor provides a wonderful, loving environment located in a beautiful setting on a hillside in Cota. Girls who have successfully completed the program have moved on to higher education and vocational opportunities. In spite of their prior conditions, some of the residents have placed in the top ten percentile within the country. Thereby, they receive scholarships to presitigious schools in Colombia.
Although out of harm's way, they are still in need. The safe house is lacking some amenities. The girls at Provisión de Amor shower with cold water everyday. Yet, they refuse to complain because they feel blessed to be where they are.
Over the next 2 years WWAM will be partnering with Youth and Discipleship and Men and Women of Action to raise funds to build and furnish a school and safe houses for these children. More information will be presented at our CA/NV Ministers Meeting December1-2, 2016. You can also learn more about this project by visiting womenofpowercog.org.
To know Christ and make Him known; to grow in the WORD of God in order to become leaders and mentors who disciple others; to be an army of prayer warriors and intercessors; to put our faith into action by standing up for the sanctity of life, freedom for those enslaved by addictions or human trafficking, and strengthening the hands of the poor and needy; to give of our talents, time and treasure for Kingdom purposes; to be accountable to one another through small group women’s communities of worship, prayer, Bible study, and fellowship; to strengthen our families by assuming our biblical role in the home; and to be God’s loving hands in the world.
To stir up, set on fire; to illuminate God’s POWER within our lives - not the power that the world craves, but a divine enablement that transforms each and every life; to become a flaming army of more-than-conquering, women of God.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age (Matthew 28:19 NIV).
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 2:14-15, NASB).
